How Many Posts Are Too Many On FaceBook?

April 13, 2012

This is a very important subject

As I read through my business news feed where all the Facebook pages I have LIKED is found, (HOME TAB) I am surprised at the number of  people on Facebook that believe more posting is better…IT IS NOT!

Do you realize if you post too soon after another post of yours you will drop the earlier ones value…Your audience does not have the time or the patience to concentrate entirely on you… LESS IS MORE…

Just look at your own activity on Facebook, do you skim right past boring annoying posts until finally you say….. This business page has got to go, and with two clicks that noise is gone forever….

Tips For Posting

  • Look at who is following you
  • Think about how often they are on Facebook
  • Think of what valuable information you could give them
  • Keep your message under 70 characters
  • Thank your audience
  • People LOVE visual – this means pictures
  • Videos should be short and sweet
  • Post in the morning and before you leave work if you can
  • Try to post once on the weekend
  • Decide which day you are going to take off
  • Get help if you have a team
  • EDU-TAIN – this means educate and/or entertain
  • Think of how you can announce a sale or open house differently
  • consider community updates
  • work together with another complimentary business
  • run a contest
  • Have a draw
  • Donate your LIKES $1 at a time to a charity
  • Listen to your audience
  • Engage and ask questions
  • Watch to see if the playing field is changing – right now less is more

Smile ♥

This blog is short and to the point – you do yourself more harm adding too many posts one right after another. Be considerate of your audience. Every one of you understands exactly what I am referring to. You might even tell the people you know that they risk being UNLIKED from you because they post to often and far to close together…

I would appreciate if you told me I posted too much – and I would not take offense to the message…or kill the messenger which is how you begin to feel when some businesses just go nuts… Post Post Post Post….. Yikes..

Cheers!

Alright, So It’s Not So Private…How Do I Change It?

Don't tell

Facebook Privacy Settings

Today’s question and Social Media Tip of the day comes from a very good friend Rhonda who lives out in the gorgeous Valley.

Rhonda asked: Rhonda Tudeposted to“Keep It Simple Social Media” Training & Consulting

KISS ~ Please advise how to reset posts to be viewed by ‘all friends’ after sharing a post with just one friend ‘custom’.

To answer Rhonda’s question:

Go back to the post and you should see below it “Share” simply click the share button, remember it will not post until you click post or update…now change the custom tab setting back to public or any other custom tabs you want, and then post again…. It will only show up once in your time-line and once to the original person you sent it to. If you still have the older version of Facebook the setting might read a little differently.

You might find pressing some buttons and trying things you have not tried before to be a very good lessons all on your own, we need to feel comfortable using the social media tools that we are now spending so much time on. I have found the best way is to jump right in and experiment… as long as you are ok with anyone seeing what you have written…

You might consider two things when posting a status update or post on Facebook

1. Would this be better sent as a private message to a select group of people?

2. New York Times test – How would I feel if my Gramma could read this?

Rhonda thank you very much for the excellent question I am positive this blog will help many people… I believe when one person is struggling with any part of social media, you can bet there are hundreds more pondering the same question.

Cheers!

How Many Posts a Day Should You Do On Facebook?

Tortoise and the Hare - Social Media

Is Less more?

We all learn through trial and error, although asking questions along the way would seem extremely beneficial as social media evolves. In my case I am teaching people how to use social media to compliment other marketing initiatives to help keep their name and company top of mind for potential clients….. It is a gradual start for everyone, my Business Page usually feeds into my clients news feed on their Business Page or even their personal profile news feed as a way for them to keep updated with the changing world of social media… Please don’t mistake this for my postings feeding into their postings… this does not happen unless I was to post directly onto their page… I don’t recommend doing this as you’ll probably end up being blocked by that page as SPAM.

Keep It Simple Social Media Facebook Business Page

If I was posting every hour or five times a day on my own business page… this would take up a lot of space on anyone who was following me if they had a new business page. Therefore if I was posting enormous amounts of material it would seem a little too much for most people.

I know this myself first hand because I get too many postings from some of the pages I have liked. It comes down to a fine balancing act. Look at who likes your Business Page and ask them – what is a comfortable number of posts from my business onto your news feed? You might also ask yourself if all the postings you are doing add any benefit or value to your readers… otherwise it is known as more White Noise.

I feel comfortable with one to three posts a day… Some of my friends have said they only post once every other day.

Sometimes too much is just that, too much, do you think this is annoying as well? From what I’ve been told it certainly can be. Common sense and an understanding that we can only read so many postings in a day… short and sweet will win the race. Think… “The Tortoise and the Hare”

Let me know what you think – and let me know other areas in social media you struggle with – I’ll write about it.

Cheers!

Another excellent idea from Carolyn Hill of The Whistler Real Estate Company. Notice how we have linked her company name to her Facebook Business Page! Great idea Carolyn, as a real estate agent you have so many things you can write about…. By the way I loved your blog on Golf Tips (we linked this as well).

Vinegar Uses

Nail polish setter:

For a smoother application and to stay on a lot longer, clean your fingernails first with white distilled vinegar before applying polished to nails.  You’ll be amazed at how much longer the color stays on.

Insect and bug bite relief:

another way good use of vinegar is for insect bites and bee stings to get the sting or itch out.  Mix cornflower and apple cider vinegar to create a paste, apply to the itchy affected area, as it dries the paste pulls the sting and itch out while preventing swelling.  I’ve just recently used this concoction as I usually swell up with mosquito bites and it really works!

Hiccup cure:

Another good use of vinegar is for hiccups if you drink 1 teaspoon of apple cider.

Hair color preserver:

Hair color preserver to prevent your new hair color for fading, rinse with the solution of one part white distilled vinegar to two parts cold water as cold as you can stand this will seal the color and prevent fading.

Color setting:

Color keep your clothes to keep them nice & bright… I usually add a 1/3 of a cup of vinegar in the laundry load – this prevents color running and sets the colors well.
